Bulhawk® Accessories Part One

For the next couple of blog posts we are going to be taking a look at the Bulhawk® Gazebo Accessory Range. Bulhawk® stock a range of items to help you to get the best out of your gazebo. This time we are going to concentrate on gazebo weights. All of our gazebos are supplied with sets of pegs and guy ropes but sometimes you may want to add some extra weight.

Firstly though, a few words about pop-up gazebos and the wind. Bulhawk® Gazebos all feature good quality frames of high quality materials. Both the steel framed Premium range and the aluminium Premium Plus or Deluxe models will withstand moderately bad whether. Please remember though that pop-up Gazebos are not designed to leave up permanently in all weathers. High winds will place an undue strain on the structure. If very high winds get under the canopy they can damage it and make the whole structure unstable.

Even in moderate weather, we recommend that you take steps to effectively secure your gazebo. Weather can change quickly and it is a good idea to listen out for extreme weather warnings. You will want to be sure that your gazebo is as secure as possible if the wind picks up or gusts. We have already mentioned pegs and guy ropes. In some circumstances guy ropes and pegs are not viable options. The surface may not be suitable or in certain situations, especially commercial use with public access, guy ropes may be deemed a trip hazard. Many people opt to use gazebo weights and several different types are available. What do you need to consider?

You’re gonna carry that weight

Apologies to the Beatles but some gazebo leg weights are pretty heavy. How you use your gazebo and personal preference will be key to your choice of gazebo leg weight. The Bulhawk® range includes a variety of options so suit all circumstances. These include canvas bags, water weights, cast iron and plastic covered varieties.

Below we will provide you with more details of the options available which we hope this will help you to chose.

Fill it yourself bag type Gazebo Weights

The cheapest and most basic type of gazebo weight that we supply bags that you fill yourself. The advantages of these are low price and the fact that you can fill them with a variety of inexpensive weight materials. You can fill them with sand, stones, or water bottles. Obviously the weight will vary depending upon what filling you use. Another advantage is that you can empty them out to store them, if you need to.

Bulhawk® carry two different types of gazebo weight bag. These are the most inexpensive way to add some weight to make your gazebo more stable when the wind blows.

We carry two types of bag as illustrated above. They are available in a range of colours and both single and double can be filled in a variety of ways, some of which are illustrated above. Both strap to the bottom of the legs as shown. When filled with sand the single bags weigh approximately 10 kilograms and the double bags weigh approximately 18 kilograms.

Water Filled Gazebo Weights

These water filled gazebo weights are a very popular option with Bulhawk® customers.

The Bulhawk® Gazebo Water Weights offer a very flexible solution because they fit a wide a variety of types of gazebo frame and you can fill or empty them as required for ease of transportation and storage. You can also stack them to increase the amount of weight on each leg. Each one weighs approximately 9.4 kilograms when filled with water and 1.2 kilograms when empty so there is potential to add considerable weight to each leg. They are available in sets of 2, 4 and 8 and the robust plastic ensures that they will be long lasting. Please note however that these weights do not fit our 50mm frames.

Cast Iron Gazebo Weights

If you want something very heavy duty and tough then it is worth looking at cast iron weights. These are often the preferred choice for commercial use. If you visit open markets where there a lot of gazebos then you will usually notice that many of them use cast iron weights on the bottom of their gazebo legs.

At time of writing we stock three different cast weights, the 10KG and 12.5KG circular weights pictured above and 15KG “H” weights. All three are compatible with all of our current ranges of Gazebos, including the 50mm Hexagonal Aluminium Deluxe models. As with the water filled weights you can stack them to increase the total weight on each leg as required. The great thing about cast weights is that they are really are “built to last a lifetime”. They are also compact and fit very neatly around the feet of the gazebo frame legs.

The heaviest cast gazebo weights that we stock are the 15KG “H” style weights. You can use them individually or stacked to maximise the amount of weight on each leg. The most common use however, is to add weight to the legs of two adjacent gazebos as illustrated top right above. Where you have two or more gazebos to stabilise, you can of course, mix the different types, with the “H” weights on adjacent legs, and the round weights on the others.

Plastic Coated Gazebo Weights

The final option in the Bulhawk® range of gazebo weights are our plastic coated 12KG heavy duty “industrial” weights.

At the moment we only stock these in one size and type but they fit all of our gazebos up to the 50mm Hexagonal Aluminium Deluxe models. As with the water weights and the cast weights, you can stack these two double the weight or more. They are tough and resilient and have the advantage of a smooth finish that cannot be achieved with cast iron.

That concludes our look at our range of gazebo weights. Next time we will feature some of the other items in the Bulhawk® range of gazebo accessories.
